During Brown’s tercentenary year, 2016, Inspiration Events will roll out a series of master-classes across England and Wales, helping people to ‘read’ and understand the landscapes of Capability Brown. Each master-class will last a day, each will take place at a particular landscape and will concentrate on that landscape, looking at it patiently, as a work of art. Thus far we have organised the following

11th April 2016 – Claremont, Surrey: the architecture of landscape

15th April 2016 – Fawsley Hall, Northamptonshire: Brown’s expansive middle period

John will also be contributing to days spent concentrating on a number of other sites

12th May 2016 – Highclere Castle, Hampshire: jamboree

16th May 2016 – Highclere Castle, Hampshire: the mediaeval idea

17th June 2016 – Wotton House, Buckinghamshire: the early work

7th July 2016 – Ugbrooke House, Devon: a country house and a kingdom

11th July 2016 – Milton Abbey, Dorset: genius and megalomania

16th July 2016 – Wotton House, Buckinghamshire: the conference

7th August 2016 – Ashridge, Hertfordshire: Brown in his second period

1st – 4th September 2016 – The Gardens Trust AGM, Cambridge: Brown in the eastern counties

6th September 2016 – Berrington Hall, Herefordshire: resolution to the difficulty in reading landscape as art

9th – 11th September, 2016 – Capability Brown: perception and response in a global context: Conference with ICOMOS-UK and The Gardens Trust at Bath University

In 2015 John led a very successful tour of Brown landscapes in the East Midlands for Inspiration Events, we propose to repeat and extend these tours in 2016. Details will be announced on the Inspiration Events web-site.
